Our Heavenly Eternal Home

2 Corinthians 5:1 (WEB)
For we know that if the earthly house of our tent is dissolved,
we have a building from God, a house not made with hands,
eternal, in the heavens.

Promise : When your body fails, you have an eternal home waiting for you.

In 1 Corinthians 13:13, the Apostle Paul tells us that faith, hope and love remain. In the last few devotionals, I have been talking a lot about love and faith. Today I want to talk about hope. If we have what we hope for, we no longer need to hope for it. There are some promises that God has made to us that we have not yet seen the fulfillment of. This is one of the those promises.

It is comforting to know that one day, when our body fails, we will have an eternal house in heaven that will last forever. This is a promise that we can hold onto with all our hearts. The eternal home that is waiting for us will not be built with human hands, but will be built by God Himself…and we will be a pillar in His house.

On that day, we will no longer experience suffering or loss. Pain or disease will be gone, for we will be with God and He will be with us. May today’s promise bring great comfort to us when we think of those in the faith who have gone before us. May we also be filled with hope ourselves knowing that we have an eternal home waiting for us too!

Waiting On God

Isaiah 64:4 (WEB)

For from of old men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear,
neither has the eye seen a God besides you,
who works for him who waits for him.

Guided By A Loving Father

Psalm 32:8 (WEB)
I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you shall go.
I will counsel you with my eye on you.

Promise: I will look after you and teach you the way that is best.

God doesn’t leave us alone to try to figure out life all by ourselves. The Bible says that He is closer to us than we could possibly imagine. In Psalm 139, King David tells us that God knows everything about us and is familiar with all our ways (Psalm 139:1-3). In today’s promise, we read that God has committed Himself to teach us in the way we should go and guide us into what is best.

The New Living Translation says Psalm 32:8 this way… The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you. (NLT) May the promise of our Father’s tender guidance bring a sense of rest and security to our hearts today. May we know that we are not alone in this life. Each step that we take is carefully guided by a loving Father who has only our best interests at heart.

God is everything that we need when we need him. He is our father, our brother, our savior, our friend, our healer, our redeemer and our teacher. Time and space would fail to speak of the many ways that the Triune God (Father, Son & Holy Spirit) watches over us every moment of our lives.

Only Good Things

Psalm 84:11 (WEB)
For Yahweh God is a sun and a shield.
Yahweh will give grace and glory.
He withholds no good thing from those who walk blamelessly.

Promise: I will not withhold anything good from those with an upright heart.

God is good and every good and perfect gift comes from His hand (James 1:17). Today’s promise once again reaffirms this truth. He will not withhold any good thing from those who have an upright heart. The enemy of our souls would want us to believe the opposite… That God isn’t good and that He is distant and angry.

My prayer today is that each one of us would reject every lie that would try and make us believe that God isn’t who the Bible says He is, so that we can align our thoughts and prayers with the truth that the Lord is good and His mercy will endure forever!

May the sense of His goodness flood your soul today and may you know beyond a shadow of a doubt that He is your sun and your shield. The truth is that He loves you with all of His heart and He will not withhold any good thing from you.

The Final Word

1 Corinthians 10:13 (WEB)
No temptation has taken you except what is common to man.
God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able,
but will with the temptation also make the way of escape,
that you may be able to endure it.

Promise: I will not let you be tested beyond what you can endure.

Jesus told us in John 16:33 that in the world we will have trouble. Sadly, bad things do happen to good people. We all experience heartache, loss and pain as a result of the fallen world we live in. But Jesus goes on to encourage us that we can be glad because He has overcome the world!

In today’s Scripture, the Apostle Paul tells us that we will not be tested with any temptation or trial more than we are able to endure. There may be circumstances in our life that rage against this promise, but hold onto the promise that God’s grace is sufficient in every trial. He will give you the grace to endure and He promises to provide you with a way of escape when the load gets beyond what you can deal with.

If you are in the midst of great trials and challenges in your life today, my prayer is that our God and Father would comfort you and strengthen you with the promise that you will not be tested beyond what you can endure. And I also pray that He will provide you with a way of escape for every trial that you face knowing that God has the last word and nothing happens that is out of HIS divine will. He has the final word.

God Is Our Protector

Psalm 97:10 (WEB)
You who love Yahweh, hate evil.
He preserves the souls of his saints.
He delivers them out of the hand of the wicked.

Promise: I will shield your life and deliver you from the wicked.

God is our protector. God is our defender and He promises to shield us and deliver us from the hand of the wicked. The New Living Translation says Psalm 27:10 this way… You who love the Lord, hate evil! He protects the lives of his godly people and rescues them from the power of the wicked. (NLT)

No matter how great the opposition you are facing, God is greater because good fathers protect their kids. It is that simple. The world can be a very scary place to live in apart from this revelation. But when we know that our Dad is the biggest, the strongest and the most loving Dad in the universe, it makes all the difference in the world!

May we all be convinced of this truth on a deeper level than we have ever known before. My prayer today is that the knowledge of our Father’s protecting love will bring a sense of peace and rest and security in our soul so that we will be confident that He is indeed our fortress and our shield.

May we echo the words found in Psalm 91:1-2 that says… 1 He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say of Yahweh, “He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in whom I trust.” (WEB)

Surrendering to God’s Plans

Promise: My plan for your future is filled with hope.

When you think of your own future, how do you feel? Are you excited to think of what is ahead or does the thought of the future cause you to be anxious? With an uncertain economy, wars and rumors of wars, etc., it is easy to feel anxious and uncertain about what lies ahead. Yet in today’s promise, God says that your future is filled with hope.

My favorite Bible translation of this verse comes from the NIV Bible… For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (NIV)

I find it very reassuring to know that God has a plan for my future that is filled with hope. I don’t have to dread what’s coming because my Heavenly Dad already has a plan for me. And of course we know that the ultimate hope is living in the light of God’s love forever!

May the reality of today’s promise fill you with peace. May you know that while the future may be uncertain to you, it is not to God. He has a father’s heart toward you and has determined to fill your future with hope. Does this mean that there will be no bumps in the road? Certainly not.

But we do know that all things will ultimately work together for our good as Paul declared in Romans 8:28… We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose. (WEB)
